Brad Bolon

Brad earned B.S. (1983; Agriculture), D.V.M. (1986) and M.S. (1986; Veterinary Biomedical Sciences [emphasis in neurotoxicology]) degrees in six years at the University of Missouri, “enjoyed” an anatomic pathology residency (1986-1989) at the University of Florida, and obtained a Ph.D. (1993; Pathology [emphasis in developmental neuropathology]) from Duke University while completing postdoctoral training at the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology (1989-1993; emphasis in developmental neurotoxicology). He worked for Pathology Associates International as associate director of the Molecular and Immunopathology Division (1993-1994) and later as staff pathologist at the National Center for Toxicological Research (1994-1996) before moving to Wyeth-Ayerst Research as a senior research scientist (1996-1997). From 1997 to early 2004, Brad was an experimental pathologist at Amgen engaged in evaluating genetically engineered rodents and the efficacy of novel biopharmaceuticals. Since 2004 he has has operated a solo consulting practice in experimental pathology (named GEMpath, for “Genetically Engineered Mouse Pathology”) while also pursuing opportunities in higher education (both giving [history, science, writing] and receiving [history]). Dr. Bolon is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP, anatomic pathology specialty, 1991) and American Board of Toxicology (1996, re-certified 2001 and 2006) as well as a Fellow of the International Academy of Toxicologic Pathology (2007). He has written prolifically and is regularly invited to speak at national and international meetings on his twin professional interests of genetically engineered mouse pathology (especially in embryos and fetuses) and neuropathology.
